A display in the north exhibit area at the Greene County Historical Museum is sure to bring out a bit of nostalgia in anyone who watched Grandma or Mother in the kitchen.
The Historical Society is sharing 30 aprons from its collection. The aprons have been donated over the years, with the oldest dating back to 1875. Bib aprons, a cobbler’s apron, half aprons, some fancy and some plain, are sure to remind folks of time spent in the kitchen.
The aprons will be on display until the first week of June, when they’ll be put away to make room for the Bell Tower Festival art show.
Also on display at the museum is a collection of more than 50 local cookbooks. The oldest, Receipts and Formulas, was published by the Baptist Church of Jefferson in 1889.
Most of the cookbooks in the collection are compilations of recipes shared by various organizations like Rotary, PEO, the Culture Club, the Greene County Medical Center auxiliary and the Jefferson-Scranton High School Class of 2010; churches; and even communities.
The museum, located at 219 E. Lincoln Way in Jefferson, is open Wednesdays from 1 to 4 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to noon, or by appointment.
